  • The original fire engine was built by the firemen in the company on a 1938 GMC Chassis. It carried 500 gallons of water and had a small booster pump.

  • The fire company purchased a 1952 GMC 500 GPM with an 800 gallon tank.

    Then the fire company bought a 1958 Ford Front-Mount 300 GPM and a 500 gallon Truck.

  • In 1963 a Rescue Truck was purchased and placed in operation a s a light duty rescue truck. In 1964 after a new addition to the fire house, a new ambulance was purchased and the company started servicing the area for EMS.

  • The company purchased a new 1968 Chevrolet Ambulance and built a 2,000 gallon tanker on a used chassis.

    In 1970, that tanker was replaced with a new Ford chassis with a 2,000 gallon tank and PTO pump.

  • In 1970, the company bought a used van to replace the old Rescue Truck and added some additional equipment to up-date the rescue equipment.

    In 1974, the company purchased a 1,000 GMP Ward LaFrance, equipped with foam system and 750 gallon water tank.

    In 1977, the company purchased a new Dodge ambulance.

  • In 1992 Brush 11 was purchased and remains in service today.

    In 1995, a Pierce Lance with a custom chassis, 2,000 GPM Pumper and 750 gallon tank was placed in service and remains in service.

    In 1999, the old 1970 tanker was replaced with a new Pierce Tanker (built on a Freightliner chassis) with a 2200 gallon tank and 500 GPM known as 11-7 and still in service.

  • Presently, the company maintains seven (7) pieces of apparatus mentioned above, including the 1952 GMC (antique) pumper and two ALS Ambulances housed at the Painter Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. Wachapreague is known for keeping its units spotless. Apparatus is washed after almost every call and are maintained by our own members and local shops.
