In order to raise money for the company, the very first Wachapreague Volunteer Firemen's Carnival was held on July 25, 1952. And has been held annually ever since, during June and July, despite the year of COVID-19 Pandemic. The Wachapreague Firemen's Carnival is one of only two remaining carnivals still operating on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. To date, the carnival is our companies largest source of income.
Volunteer
The WVFC Carnival is staffed by local community, fire company members, and other civic organizations. It takes over 70 people a night for our carnival to operate.
We wouldn’t be successful if it wasn’t for our community and volunteers, so thank you!
Tradition
Our rides consist of the Ferris Wheel, Scrambler, Bug Around, Black Spider, Tilt-a-Whirl, Kiddie Swings, Helicopters (kids), Merry-Go-Round, and Pony Carts.
Foods include, fresh cut french-fries, cheeseburgers, seafood sandwiches (soft crab, crab cake, oyster fritter, clam fritter, flounder), hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy, ice cream, fried oreo’s, donuts, and more!
Kelley Gaskins from WESR spent the opening night of the 2022 Carnival interviewing ESVA locals and visitors on their carnival favorites and traditions. The year of 2022 holds a sentimental space in the companies heart as it was the first carnival following the COVID Pandemic. Click the link above and we hope it makes your heart smile too.
